Automations

Show or hide actions in your app on cue, at a set time or when certain words appear in a stack, without anyone pressing a button on the day.

What an automation does

An automation is one rule: when something happens, then show or hide one or more actions in your stacks. Tiparra checks automations about once a minute.

Each automation runs once. After it runs, it moves to the Done tab, where you can run it again or copy it for the next game.

Two kinds of trigger

  • At a set time: runs at the date and time you pick, in your club's time zone. If the club's time zone isn't set, or you can't see it, you pick in your browser's time zone instead, and the form says so (see Times in the list).
  • When words appear: watches one piece of content in a stack and runs when the words you enter appear in it. Capitals must match, so "half time" won't find "Half Time". Only rich-text content can be watched, so only rich-text content is offered.

Examples

  • Close a prediction at half time. When words appear: "Half Time", in your live score content. Then hide the half-time prediction.
  • Open voting after the game. At a set time: 9:30 pm on game day. Then show the Player of the Match vote.

Creating an Automation

  1. Go to Automations and click New automation.
  2. When should it happen? Choose At a set time and pick the date and time, or When words appear. For words, type them, then under Look in choose the stack and the content to watch. The form looks for content that contains the words; click Change to look for content that doesn't contain them, is exactly them, or starts or ends with them. Under the content, the form shows what it says now and whether the words are already there.
  3. What should happen? For each change, choose Hide or Show, the stack, and what to change in it. Actions are listed under their action group. Click Add another to change more than one; they all happen together.
  4. Name it and turn it on. Give it a name you'll recognise, or click Use it to take the suggested one. The switch is on, so it runs; switch it off to keep it paused.
  5. The summary beside the form says what the automation will do and lists anything still to do. When it says Ready to save, click Save automation. Clicking it before then takes you to that list. If its words are already in the content it watches, saving it on would run it within a minute, so you're asked first. Leaving the page with changes you haven't saved asks first too.

Managing Automations

The list has three tabs: To run, Done and Archived. Each automation shows its status and one line saying what it does, such as "Sat 17 Oct, 7:30 pm → show “Vote” + 1 more" or "When “Half Time” appears in Live Score → hide “Predict The Half Time Leader”".

Statuses

  • Scheduled: a set-time automation waiting for its time.
  • Watching: a find-text automation waiting for its words to appear.
  • Paused: kept, but it won't run until you resume it.
  • Needs attention: something stops it working as set up, such as a time that can't be read, nothing chosen to show or hide, or a time that has passed without it running. The row says what's wrong.
  • Done: it has run. The Done tab shows the most recent first, with when each one ran. Tiparra started recording run times in October 2026, so automations that ran before then show no run time and come after the rest, by name.
  • Archived: put away. Archived automations never run.

To run lists what needs attention first, then what runs soonest, then what's watching, then what's paused. The list checks for changes every minute while it's open, so an automation moves to Done soon after it runs.

What you can do

  • Find one: search by name or by what it does. The search looks in the tab you're on.
  • Edit: click the automation, make your changes and click Save automation. Cancel leaves without saving. An automation that has run says when it ran; click Run again to turn it back on, with a new time if it's a set-time one. If a stack or action an automation changes has gone, the form says so under that change, and it says why when the content an automation watches can't be chosen any more.
  • Duplicate: from the automation's ⋯ menu. It opens a copy in the form, named "(copy)", so you can swap in this round's stacks and time. When you choose a different stack, the form keeps the action you had if the new stack has one with exactly the same name, and otherwise asks you to choose one. Check each action before saving. Saving creates a new automation and leaves the original as it was.
  • Pause and Resume: from the ⋯ menu. If a set-time automation's time has already passed, resuming runs it within a minute, so you're asked first, even if its row shows something to fix. To run it later instead, open it and change the time. A find-text automation runs within a minute of resuming if its words are already in the content it watches.
  • Run it again: open it from Done, set its status to on and, for a set-time automation, pick a new time. Or duplicate it.
  • Archive: from the ⋯ menu. It moves to the Archived tab straight away, and the message that appears has an Undo button. The message stays until you use Undo or close it. Only your latest archive can be undone this way; to bring back an earlier one, restore it. If a set-time automation's time passed while it was archived, Undo brings it back paused, so it doesn't run late without asking.
  • Restore: in the Archived tab, from the ⋯ menu. An automation with a recorded run time goes back to Done. Anything else comes back paused, so nothing runs until you resume it. That includes one that ran before Tiparra started recording run times, so check its time before resuming it.
  • Delete forever: only in the Archived tab, and it asks first. A deleted automation can't be restored.

Rounds

Automations copied with their stacks belong to a round, such as W16 or Round 16. In To run and Done, when any automation has a round, the tab is grouped by round; Archived isn't. In To run, the round with the next set time still to come is open, along with automations without a round, and the other rounds are one line each; click a round's line to open or close it. In Done, each round is one line, the round that ran most recently first. Automations without a round have their own group. Searching for a round's name opens it.

Each round's line has Pause all (in To run) and Archive all. Both ask first. Pause all leaves alone anything that has already run or is already paused. Archived automations can be restored from the Archived tab. An automation copied from another says which one it was copied from.

Copying automations with your stacks

When you duplicate stacks for next round, the Duplicate Stacks page lists every automation that changes or watches those stacks, except archived ones. Ticked automations are copied along with the stacks:

  • What they change and watch: the copies point at the new stacks. Anything they change in other stacks stays as it is.
  • Times: pick the team, the game you're copying from and the game you're copying to, and set times move by the gap between the two games. Without games, they move by the number of days you set (7 to start with), at the same time of day. You can change any copy's time on the page, in your club's time zone. Words to look for don't change.
  • Names and round: names take the stacks' rename, so W15 becomes W16 when you rename the stack that way. The round comes from the game you're copying to, or from the rename, and you can type your own.
  • On or paused: copies are switched on unless you tick Leave them paused. Some are always copied paused, and the page says which and why: one whose new time has already passed, or whose watched content already matches, because it would otherwise run straight away; one that watches a stack you aren't copying, because it would react to last round's content; one whose content couldn't be checked; and the copy of a paused automation.

After the stacks are created, the page says what was copied. If it can't tell which new stack is the copy of one an automation uses, that automation isn't copied; copy it by hand with Duplicate. Picking games needs access to the team's fixtures, which club admins and Tiparra staff have.

Times in the list

The list shows times in your club's time zone, which a club admin sets in Players → Data access and settings → Settings → Club time zone. If none is set, or you can't see that setting, the list uses your browser's time zone. The line above the list says which one it's using.

If an automation hasn't run

Find it in the list. If it says Needs attention, the row says what's wrong. If it's Paused, resume it. For a find-text automation, check that the words match exactly, capitals included.

Stacks open in the editor

If a stack was open in the editor when an automation changed it, saving that stack can put the old setting back. Reopen the stack after an automation has run, then make your changes.
